- Rinse the masoor dal thoroughly with water until the water runs clear.
- In a kadhai add the 2 cup masoor dal and 2 and half cups of water
- Cook the dal on high heat until it's almost fully cooked.
- This should take around 15 minutes.
- Once the dal is almost cooked, add 3 cups water, chopped green chilies, haldi, and salt to taste, and cook for 5 minutes
- In a separate pan, heat the oil on medium heat.
- Add the dry chili and 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds to the oil and saute for a few seconds until the generate starts to sizzle.
- Add the chopped tomatoes to the pan and cook until the tomatoes are soft and mushy.
- Add the cooked dal to the pan with the tomato mixture and stir well.
- Cook the dal on high heat for another 7-8 minutes until it's fully cooked and the flavors have melded together add fresh chopped coriander leaves
